Dez began Racing in 1997, after a
series of Road
"Incidents" convinced him that racing would be
safer,
cheaper,
and prolong his life span.
On a TZ350, a novice for only 10 weeks,
a Clubman for only
13 weeks,
and Dez finished the season
3rd Overall,
in the New Era "Forgotten Era" Championships.

In the search for more reliability, but
staying
with the
Historic theme,
an Ex Fred Merkel
F1 VFR750 was
run for a whole year in
the
Superstocks class.
With three wins under his belt, and a
couple of engine
rebuilds to boot,
the season ran to a very close 3rd overall.
Missing
first by just 4 points ! |

Determined to do better, the
VFR was re-vamped by Dave and the
1999 season went far better than expected.
Despite some disappointments we
took the title of
Superstocks Champion. |

For 2000 , Frettons
offered a National ride in
Suzuki's Bandit 1200 Championships.
Ending the Season 5th overall in this hard fought series.
Consistency was the key, scoring points in Every Round
of the Championship while all
around him the
Win-It-or-bin-It Crew made him very nervous.
The bike proved as reliable as the rider, a fine season at
National Level was a steep
learning curve for everyone
involved but proved very enjoyable too. |

2001 saw Dez on a real pedigree machine,
Aprilia RSV1000cc "V" twin.
Dez again proved a Reliable proposition,
The Italian Bike proved quite a handful
on
the track and in the garage, requiring
far more
input than could possibly have
been imagined. The 1998 machine was struggling
to compete with
Factory Backed 2001 Bikes,
and the difference was obvious.
With Dave's knowledge of suspension and
machine set up,
they made a total
commitment and shone through all adversity.
Finishing a disappointing 11th overall,
but
claimed the title of
ONLY rider to score points in all 12 ROUNDS. |
