All about the transformation from Road to Race Bike.

Starting with a completely new, standard Suzuki Bandit 1200, supplied by FRETTONS of Leamington, we changed everything possible within the
rules of the series
to produce a lean, mean fighting machine.
(OK so it was never light !)
I used it for get to work while it was still road legal, just to run the engine in and get used to the great wobbling beast.
It gave the VFR a rest.
What a strange pair they made !

The standard seat was too thick so we had it cut down to get my head out of the wind and stop me sliding off the back !

The standard shock had to go, in place of a fully adjustable Ohlins unit. It was a different bike, and when we got the fork springs to match it became a competent track machine instead of a shopping trolley with a mind of it's own.
Spot the difference ??

The SPRINT steering damper kept the front end under control, while the combination of the springs up front and damper on the rear kept the chassis somewhere controlled.
The Dunlop 207RR's were very stable, being a heavy weight version of the 207GP's they suited the Bandit very well.

Apart from shedding some teeth from the Clutch Idler gear, and costing a fortune to keep in tyres, it ran perfectly all season thanks to Dave and Nick at Manx Cat M/C's, who set up the Dynojet kit and kept it fettled throughout the 2000 season.
At the end of the year, having managed to keep it out of the gravel (Croft in the wet doesn't count - it was only morning practice) the bike looked as good as new so was returned to FRETTONS of Leamington for conversion back into a road bike again.

But not before it was chosen for a Magazine group shot simply because it was the tidiest bike in the paddock !
